cystitis

Cystitis is inflammation of the bladder. This is an annoying and irritating condition which can affect all age groups from either sex, but most commonly affects women - up to 50% of the female population - with main symptoms being:

  • The frequent passing of water;
  • Pain or a burning sensation on passing water;
  • Smelly or cloudy urine; or
  • Blood in the urine. (This is common and need not cause undue alarm,though if persistent, you should see your doctor)

The main cause of cystitis is coliform bacteria, which are a common occupant of the bowel. Other bacteria or infections may also be involved, with trauma to the pelvic area such as radiation or vigorous sexual activity sometimes contributing to the condition.

Drinking a lot of fluid will help to flush out the infection, and the following treatment should also hasten the road to recovery:

Method 1 - Massage Formula

Blend:

  • Basil (10 drops)
  • Lavender (10 drops)
  • Pine (10 drops)

Mix the drops of oil into 30ml of vegetable oil. Massage daily covering the lower abdomen, hips and lower back - repeating until relief is obtained.

Method 2 - Sitz Bath

Blend:

Run a bath to the level of your hips, and blend the oils in. Then, simply - sit!
