patchouli

Patchouli (pogostemon cablin) is a bushy perennial herb native to South-East Asia. The oil is distilled from the young leaves and shoots of the plant, giving a pungent aroma that is sweet, warm, earthy, musky and spicy.

The anti-inflammatory and astringent qualities of this oil indicate it for dermatitis, enteritis and diarrhoea. It is a useful insecticide and an important remedy for snake and insect bites. From an energetic perspective, patchouli is warm in nature, which combined with its calming and stimulative nature result in a feeling of uplift.

Patchouli has antiseptic and emolient properties making it applicable for a wide range of dermal disorders such as eczema, acne, herpes, and cracked and sore skin. The oil is particularly relevant for conditions of weak immunity, where overwork and chronic anxiety have left the person pronce to infection.
