bergamot

Bergamot (citrus bergamia) is derived from distillation of the fruit of the bitter orange tree citrus bergamia. Originating in tropical Asia, the tree is also grown in Southern Italy, Sicily and the Ivory Coast. The aroma is sweet and fruity, fresh and citrus, and slightly floral.

Like all citrus oils bergamot is essentially cooling, refreshing and anti-depressive - gently relaxing yet distinctly uplifting. Although it's anti-bacterial and anti-infectious properties aid in urinary infections and skin disorders, it's principal therapeutic value rests with its regulatory effect on the nervous system, harmonising vital energy through the body and mind. When this smooth flow of energy has been disrupted, it creates indigestion, abdominal distention and colic. Bergamot can help to rectify these problems through releasing and circulating stagnant energy in the stomach and intestines.

Benzoin has soothing characteristics which can benefit chronic bronchitis and asthma of a cold, catarrhal nature. The combination of balsamic and vulnerary properties make it indicated for chapped skin, chillblains, frostbite and cuts.
